Derry Jazz Festival '09

Hi Everybody, just a quick note and a bunch of pics from this years'
Derry Jazz Festival.

As usual it was the best ever in many ways. We played for the second
time at the Playtrail with 10 different schools from around Derry
attending and we also played for the first time at St. Patricks' School
which is the biggest primary school in Northern Ireland. It was also the
first time that all 830 kids had been in the same place at the same time
in the school's history.

We also appeared on two front pages in the news, played live on air on
Mark Patterson's show on BBC Foyle and also pegging it to Belfast one
afternoon between gigs to appear live on George Jones' show on U Radio.

We also ended up extending the festival by two days by starting a day
early with the first gig at the Gweedore Bar on Wednesday and the last
on the Monday in the Strand Bar. The reason for that is because we had
to fly back to London on Saturday to perform for the Variety Club
International conference opening night with Tony Hatch doing MC duties
(see the pic).

The photos can also be seen on our Facebook Album at:

and if I was on Dancing With the Stars or Strictly Come Dancing, I would
give it ELEVEN!

The Jive Aces were top of the bill at the Grand Order of Water Rats Christmas Ball last Sunday performing to a veritable who's who of British talent and members of the entertainment industry.

The Waters Rats are a charitable association of top UK entertainers that started 120 years ago. Last year the Jive Aces played an early spot before Tony Christie and it was so successful that this year they were
asked back to headline.

Before and after the show they got to rub shoulders with the stars and listened to the speeches and stories they told during the dinner.

Amoungst the guests were Carry On star Barbara Windsor, Fawlty Tower's Andrew Sachs, magic man Paul Daniels and Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain.

One particular star that drew their attention was British rock n roll singer Jess Conrad who as you probably know was one of the British stars, along with Marty Wilde, Billy Fury and Joe Brown, who toured with Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent on their famous UK tour. He was voted UK's favourite singer in 1961.

"Jess Conrad gave a great speech as he proposed the toast to the lady guests at the ball. He still looks great and has a great sense of humour", said lead singer Ian Clarkson. "The whole night was fun and the
atmosphere was amazing, despite being famous the guests were all really down to earth and friendly".

Bournemouth 14/11/08

http://ping.fm/v/iHjX3 - "Tonight the where at the Landmarc in Bournemouth. What a fantastic night of music and dancing. Tomorrow we're off to Croydon town centre to switch on the Christmas lights with Brian Blessed. Then it's down to Hove town hall for the Horror Ball, or horrible on of the two. Anyway see you here"

Friday, November 14, 2008

Next stop is the Croydon Xmas lights switch on with Brian Blessed and then tomorrow night (Sat) the Horror Ball at Hove Town Hall.

Last Week On Tour 6/11 - 9/11...

Wow, what a week! Firstly last Thursday we appeared in a huge charity show to over 1400 people in Barnsley alongside the Bachelors and a whole host of comedy legends including Cannon and Ball, Jimmy Cricket, Billy Pierce and the Grumbleweeds. Hanging out backstage was none other than Paul Shane (AKA Ted Bovis) of "Hi Di Hi" fame.

Saturday saw our first appearance at the Middleton Civic Centre. It was also our last as they are knocking it down in January. However all is well because they have built a bigger and better replacement already and I'm sure we'll be back there in the new year. Big thanks to Ian and Sheilagh Harltey for not only their help on the night but also 3 nights of great tea and crumpets!

Sunday saw us on a loooong drive down to the 10th anniversary Party Weekender in Warmwell. Great fun as always to see so many people on the dance-floor. Some of them were even dancing!
