The Jive Aces Newsflash Aug '10
jiveaces.com | facebook | youtube | myspace | twitter London swing dancers fill the Royal Albert Hall
dance floor for the first time!
Friday the 9th July was a one night only experience as The Royal Albert Hall invited everyone to put on their dancing shoes and join them for the swing party of the summer for "In Full Swing" featuring the UK’s No. 1 Jive and Swing band, The Jive Aces.
It was an historical night with the Hall’s arena floor transformed into London’s greatest dance floor to create the largest swing and jive night that the capital has seen since the swing era. A stunning 5,000 square foot parquet oak dance floor was installed over the magnificent ornate exhibition floor to provide more than ample room for the 1400 dancers to move to the best swing, jive, jitterbug and lindy hop tunes.
The Jive Aces who headlined the night also introduced a surprise guest performer, Rebecca Grant, better known for her part in hospital TV drama Holby City, and swing dancers G.I. Jive making a night of high energy and vintage glamour.
Supporting the Jive Aces were two more great bands, Top Shelf Jazz followed by the Back to Basie Orchestra along with dance displays given by Scott Cupit and his Swing Patrol dancers, Simon Selmon and London Swing Dance Society, Joseph & Tricia with their SwingJive.com troupe and Robert and Claire Austin with the Hollywood Hoppers. DJ for the night was Tim Hellzapoppin with James Horada MCing.
Lucy Noble, Head of Programming at the Royal Albert Hall and her team were thrilled with the success of the evening and got many compliments from both dancers, entertainers and crew.
Was this event the beginning of a new swing trend at the Royal Albert Hall? Many swing music fans and dancers certinaly do hope so!

The Jive Aces Newsletter - March 2010
Hi there, Jazz Meets Jive - 5-Star ReviewThe Jazz Meets Jive show, with Kenny Ball and The Jive Aces together, just got a great, five-star review in the Brighton Argus:
The high-energy band, endlessly moving around in their yellow suits, provided non-stop performances of 1950s music – a case of Bill Haley meets Big Band Swing. Highlights included a boogie-woogie number with the pianist emulating the antics of Jerry Lee Lewis and a sizzling version of “Sing! Sing! Sing!” which provided a glorious end to their set. Topping the bill was jazz legend Kenny Ball – long past bus pass age and still blowing up a storm after more than 50 years of leading a band. He showed no fear in hitting the high notes. Amongst jazz standards including 'That’s A Plenty' and 'Someday You’ll Be Sorry', past hits 'Sukiyaki' and 'Midnight In Moscow' came across with freshness. A swinging drum solo and a thrilling jazz version of Bach’s 'Toccata' proved highly popular, with both bands combining for the finale – a version of The Beatles’ All You Need Is Love.” Next Jazz Meets Jive shows are Bournemouth on the 1st April and Leicester on the 9th April, see gig guide below for full details. On The Beeb The Aces are on the show, presented by old friend Joanne Good, every Wednesday from 10pm to 11pm. You can tune in to the show at 94.9FM in the London area from anywhere else, online at http://www.bbc.co.uk/london/radio. The band’s song “London Rhythm” is also used for the trailer for the show throughout the weeks. Lakeside to Stateside The following morning it was straight to the airport as the Aces flew off to Hollywood for two weeks. The band has been recording with the legendary Keely Smith as well as Toni Elizabeth Prima, for a new release (more on that soon) as well as performing to capacity crowds at several of the top swing venues around Los Angeles, including the fabulous art deco Cicada Club. Jazz Meets Jive, Pavilion Theatre, Worthing, Jan 29 (From The Argus)
Jazz Meets Jive, Pavilion Theatre, Worthing, Jan 29
11:52am Monday 1st February 2010
Whatever the biting cold outside inflicted on the audience, the blistering heat generated by The Jive Aces’ opening number soon dissipated the effect.
The high-energy band, endlessly moving around in their yellow suits, provided non-stop performances of 1950s music – a case of Bill Haley meets Big Band Swing.
Their attempts at comedy sadly fell flat and the band should stick to what they do best – music.
Highlights included a boogie-woogie number with the pianist emulating the antics of Jerry Lee Lewis, and a sizzling version of Sing! Sing! Sing! which provided a glorious end to their set.
Topping the bill was jazz legend Kenny Ball – long past bus pass age and still blowing up a storm after more than 50 years of leading a band.
He showed no fear in hitting the high notes.
Amongst jazz standards including That’s A Plenty and Someday You’ll Be Sorry, past hits Sukiyaki and Midnight In Moscow came across with a freshness that was lacking in the hackneyed Jungle Book Song.
A swinging drum solo and a thrilling jazz version of Bach’s Toccata proved highly popular, with both bands combining for the finale – a version of The Beatles’ All You Need Is Love.
Great 5 star review from the Argus for the Worthing Jazz Meets Jive!

The Jive Aces News Jan '10
Aces Are OK!
Some hot news, fresh off the presses - The Jive Aces are featured in the last weeks copy of “OK” magazine. The band was photographed with X Factor singer Rhydian at the Berkeley Square Ball in London after being requested personally by Vince Power, entrepreneur and owner of the Pigalle Club and organiser of the event.
This top international Charity event raises money for the Princes' Trust. Also featured in the magazine are some of the guests that were entertained by the Aces at the star-studded bash including David Haye, Russell Brand, Anna Friel and Gwen Stefani amongst many others.
After the ball, the band headed straight off the Pigalle Club in Piccadilly to perform to a packed house for the official after party.
London Gets The Rhythm
What better way to start off the year than to spend the entire day outdoors in sub-zero temperatures filming a music video. Well, we couldn't think of one either so that's exactly what we did for our forthcoming single release for the song "London Rhythm" from our latest album, "Recipe For Rhythm"!
Starting at 6:00am on a rooftop in front of St Paul's in the City and progressing through various locations as the day went on including the Millennium Bridge, Southwark, Westminster and ending off as the light faded from usefulness in Marble Arch with a lot of pigeons (who may even make it into the edit, you never know!). We had a blast filming our biggest and highest budget production yet and we have lots more ideas for future videos lined up too.
Along for the shoot were Scott and Tanya from Swing Patrol who braved the cold and death defying rooftop heights to pull off some killer moves over the city and also the inimitable Mr and Mrs Hartley (aka GI-Jive) in their finest character performances yet!
The raw footage looks great and the video is being edited soon and will be released along with the single of "London Rhythm" in the near future and as soon as we have a date, you'll be the first to know.
Check out some of the stills here.
Jive Aid
We have thrown together a special dance at very short notice to raise money to send volunteer disaster relief workers, supplies and medical professionals over to Haiti to help with the humanitarian effort.
Both Nick Kirby's' Jive connection and the Cats Whiskers Jive Club are joining forces with us on Monday the 1st Feb at 7:00pm at Saint Hill Manor, East Grinstead for a special dancathon.
Tickets are £10 on the door and all proceeds will go to the Haitian cause. Nick Kirby will also be DJing. Please come along if you are in the area and help us so spread the word. There is also a FaceBook Event Page HERE.
Please come along and support the efforts and also please forward these event details to everybody you know to help us promote the event as fast as possible.
The Big Jive All Dayer
Things are hotting up for the Big Jive All Dayer No.2, in fact that dastardly villain, the Joker was only just stopped from messing things up by the caped crusader himself. If you have no idea what we are talking about, CLICK HERE to watch the movie...
We have a great lineup for the day including a return for Oo Bop Sh'Bam; Carmen Ghia and the Hotrods, a fantastic new Rockin' R&B band from Sheffield and a special band we have put together featuring some of the finest young musicians in the country including boogie woogie boy wonder Codie Lee; all singing, all dancing, all double bass slapping Little Miss Hayley; Sam "the sax" Pagett and more. We also have DJs The Bees Knees, Voodoo Doll and Ian GI-Jive Hartley spinning hot wax.
We also have dance displays from the Hollywood Hoppers and the 100 Club Dancers.
There will also be clothes and shoe stalls and Billy Kos Rockin' Barber Shop not to mention the rotating stage and massive dance floor.
